What you will learn
Classroom management
A calm class is not silence. It is children knowing what happens next.
Classroom management is how a teacher keeps a class safe, focused and respectful. Start with a few clear rules, simple routines for entering, group work and finishing, and consistent kind responses. Notice good behaviour and say it. Move around the room, use a calm voice and look at the whole class. When a child misbehaves, correct privately, find the cause (boredom, hunger, trouble at home) and follow school policy. Never use physical punishment or shame.
Interview tip: Prepare two real examples: how you set rules in week one and how you handled one hard student kindly.
Lesson planning and teaching methods
A good lesson is a short journey: start with a hook, walk one clear path, check that everyone arrived.
A lesson plan states what students should learn (objectives), how you will teach it (hook, explanation, activity, practice) and how you will check it (questions, exit ticket). Pick objectives that use action words like explain, compare or solve. Bloom's taxonomy moves from remember and understand to apply, analyse and create. Mix methods: explanation, discussion, demonstration, group work and projects. Use simple teaching aids and real examples from daily life. NEP 2020 encourages activity based and competency based learning.
Interview tip: Practise a 5 minute demo lesson with one objective, one activity and one check for understanding.
Assessment and student support
Marks are one photo of a child. Assessment is the whole album.
Formative assessment happens during learning (questions, quizzes, observation) to help students improve. Summative assessment comes at the end (term exams) to record results. A rubric lists what good work looks like at each level so marking is fair and students know the goal. Give feedback that is specific and kind: one thing done well, one thing to improve, one next step. Support slow learners with extra practice, peer help and small steps. Inclusive education means every child, including those with special needs, can take part. Talk with parents with respect and facts.
Interview tip: Prepare how you would explain a low mark to a parent without blaming the child.
Digital teaching and online classes
Technology is a bridge, not the teacher. Use it where it makes learning clearer.
Digital tools help teachers share notes, give quizzes and reach students at home. Google Classroom, Zoom or Meet, and free resources such as DIKSHA and NCERT books support lessons. Keep slides simple with large text and one idea each. In online classes start on time, check audio, ask questions often, use polls and keep cameras and recordings respectful and safe. Blended learning mixes class and online work. Protect children's privacy and never share their details publicly.
Interview tip: Prepare how you keep students active in an online class and what you do when their internet fails.
Interview questions and sample answers
Every child can learn when given clear goals, kind support and practice. I plan for different learners and keep checking understanding.
Find the reason first, talk privately, offer support and agree on small steps, then involve parents if needed.
Start with a real life example or question, use activities and visuals, and connect it to student interests.
Use tiered tasks, group work, peer help and checks so weaker students get support and stronger ones get challenge.
A lesson plan covers one class. A scheme of work covers a unit or term across many lessons.
Stop it at once, listen to both sides, follow school policy, support the victim and work with the bully and parents on behaviour.
Know their needs, adjust tasks and seating, work with specialists and parents, and treat the child with respect.
Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation looks at learning through the year, not only one final exam.
India's National Education Policy that aims for flexible, skill based and activity based learning with more focus on foundations.
Regularly, politely and with facts: strengths first, then concerns and a plan to help the child.
Plan each segment, keep a visible timer, prepare materials in advance and keep a short buffer.
Start with small wins, link to daily life, praise effort and allow mistakes.
The Central Teacher Eligibility Test is a qualification needed for teaching in many central government schools. Check the official CBSE site for current rules.
Use rubrics, mark in batches, give group feedback and plan a weekly schedule.
